It’s been 13 years since he designed the star-studded wedding of Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas at New York’s Plaza Hotel, and David Beahm is busier than ever. “Another crazy day at the office,” he jests by phone from his Chelsea studio space, adding that, “We will do 250 parties this year.”
Daunting as that may sound, Beahm is right where he wants to be at this stage of his luminous career as an internationally renowned event designer and producer. “Every night I get to make people smile,” he says. “What better job is there?” Evident right away when we meet the next day are his lightness of being, grace, and humor, winning qualities for managing the myriad logistical, operational, and emotional complexities of wedding and party design for the elite.
